28 Years Later picks up nearly three decades after the events of 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, and the world has only grown more chaotic. The Rage Virus has decimated much of the global population, with the infected spreading beyond the UK, plunging the world into a state of collapse. Cillian Murphy reprises his role as Jim, now a hardened survivor, living in isolation and haunted by the events he witnessed all those years ago.
The film opens with a chilling montage showing the spread of the virus globally, with once-thriving cities now reduced to wastelands. Jim is reintroduced, having spent years living in hiding. When a mysterious group led by Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s character, Daniel, seeks him out, Jim is forced to confront the horrors he left behind. Daniel claims that there may be a cure to the virus, but it requires returning to ground zero: London.
Reluctantly, Jim joins Daniel and his group on a journey back to the city, which has now become the epicenter of infection. The film is relentless in its depiction of the desolation and horror of a world overtaken by the infected, with tense action sequences as Jim’s group navigates hostile environments and encounters infected humans more terrifying than ever.
The big twist comes when Jim discovers that Daniel has ulterior motives—he’s not just looking for a cure but something far more sinister. Daniel believes that the infected are the next step in human evolution, and he wants to use the virus to create a new world order. As Jim realizes the truth, he must decide whether to fight Daniel or save humanity from total extinction.
In a shocking conclusion, Jim confronts Daniel in the ruins of London. The fate of the world hangs in the balance, with the final moments leaving the door open for further sequels. Fans can expect a blend of suspense, heart-pounding action, and a darker exploration of humanity’s survival instincts.
