The story begins in ancient Egypt, where the feared and legendary warrior-king Akhom (Dwayne Johnson) wages war across the lands, determined to conquer all. Akhom strikes a deal with the dark gods of the underworld, trading his soul for eternal power. However, the gods punish him for his hubris, cursing him to an eternal death in a hidden tomb, never to rise again.
In present-day Cairo, renowned archaeologist Dr. Marcus Cain (Keanu Reeves) is still haunted by the disappearance of his wife, Sarah, a fellow archaeologist who vanished during a previous dig in Egypt. Marcus is contacted by a mysterious organization that offers him information on Sarah’s whereabouts, but there’s a catch—they need him to help locate and excavate Akhom’s cursed tomb, buried deep in the desert. Desperate for answers about his wife, Marcus reluctantly agrees, unaware of the deadly forces at play.
With the help of his elite team, including the brilliant and fierce archaeologist Leila (Golshifteh Farahani), Marcus discovers the tomb, where they accidentally awaken Akhom, resurrecting the ancient warrior-king. Unleashing his wrath, Akhom immediately begins gathering an army of undead warriors and begins his quest to reclaim his throne. As chaos erupts, it’s revealed that Sarah had been captured by the same secret organization funding the dig, who had been experimenting with Akhom’s dark magic, hoping to harness it for their own purposes.
Akhom’s resurrection fulfills an ancient prophecy, triggering a series of catastrophic events that could plunge the world into darkness. Marcus and his team must race against time to stop the warrior-king from fully regaining his powers. Along the way, they discover ancient scrolls that reveal a weapon capable of defeating Akhom—a mythical artifact hidden in the same tomb. However, retrieving it will come at a great personal cost.
In the explosive final act, Marcus confronts Akhom in a battle deep within the crumbling ruins of a pyramid. As Akhom unleashes his full power, Marcus realizes that his wife Sarah is the key to stopping the curse. Together, they use the artifact to weaken Akhom, but in doing so, Marcus is forced to sacrifice everything, including his own chance at redemption.
The film ends with Akhom’s defeat, but a foreboding shot suggests that the dark gods who cursed him may have their sights set on a new host.
